SCAPA Limited is a Ugandan company that was formed in 2005 to establish a commercial fish farming and processing business supplying fresh and processed fish for the local and export markets.

SCAPA is focused on creating a model of sustainable commercial development in Uganda. SCAPA stands for “Sustainable Commercial Aquaculture for Poverty Alleviation” and our objectives are to establish an operation that can become the catalyst for the development and support of community-based outgrower farmers in eastern Uganda.

Uganda is ideally placed for aquaculture with abundant sources of fresh water, tropical year-round temperatures supporting high growth rates, a significant underserved domestic market and good access to both regional and European markets.

Uganda has one of the fastest growing markets for fish in Africa driven by a growing population accustomed to eating fish and the dramatic decline of traditional production sources from Lake Victoria and other water bodies as a result of over fishing. Despite these advantages, aquaculture in Uganda is highly underdeveloped.

SCAPA is committed to ensure that the growth of its operations is based on the principles of genuine sustainable development and plans include community participation in the business and a minimum waste and low carbon-footprint operation which will strengthen the business and contribute to the delivery of the UN Millennium Development Goals in Africa.

We believe that a holistic approach to value creation with truly sustainable development as the ultimate goal can generate additional value economically, socially and environmentally and therefore improve the quality and long-term viability of our business.
